SEE & DO

THINGS TO DO

Castle Douglas

Castle Douglas is a small market town less than a 10 min drive away (3 miles) It is known as a food town with roughly 50 independent small business's. This is where you will find the nearest post office, fuel station and supermarkets.

Galloway Forest

Galloway Forest is roughly a 30 min drive away. Here you can visit the first Dark sky park in the Uk, on a clear night being able to see billions of stars, the milky way and sometimes the northern lights. It is home to lots of amazing nature walks, Lochs and Deer, Mountain Goat and Red Kite parks! All of these are completely free and we couldn't reccomend enough.

Beaches

There are several nearby beaches mostly in a 20 min drive radius. Rockcliffe, Sandy hills, Dalavan Beach all make a great day out for family and furry friends!

Leisure Activities

If you're after adventure, Galloway Activity Center is located at Loch ken. It offers a variety of activities such as Laser tag, Archery, Sailing, Wind surfing, Kayaking, Mountain biking and much more!

Fishing

There are several places to fish in the area, the closest being at Carling Wark, Castle Douglas for brown trout. We reccommend Doachwood for Salmon fishing and the River Urr for salmon, Grilse and sea trout.

Historical Sites

There are many historical sites around the area. A couple of sites are; Threave Castle, which was built in 1369 and was home to the Lady of Galloway for 21 years. Go explore the history of Threave while walking round the gardens and stopping in for lunch in their cafe! Another must go-to site is Cairn Holy. Neolithic chambered tombs over 4000 years old, they have been robbed, set a light and dug up throughout the years, leaving only the skeletonal stones of the original structure.
